Spring snow has changed — and so has SpringSolution™. Warmer winters, wetter snowpack, and heavier pollen loads are redefining what spring skiing demands from a wax. Hertel has updated the SpringSolution™ formula with stronger pollen-repellent properties, specifically engineered for today’s climate-driven conditions: wetter, heavier, and more pollen-saturated than ever. The only spring pollen wax in the industry, invented in 1974 and continuously refined for 50+ years. Made in USA.
Why Spring Snow Has Changed
Climate shifts are producing warmer, wetter spring seasons across North America and Europe. Snowpack is heavier and more saturated. Pollen seasons arrive earlier and last longer. The result: spring skiing conditions that are more demanding on wax chemistry than they were a decade ago. Standard paraffin waxes — even ones that worked fine in spring conditions years ago — are increasingly failing under today’s wetter, pollen-heavier snow. SpringSolution™ has been reformulated to stay ahead of these changes, with an updated surfactant matrix engineered for higher moisture content and heavier pollen loads.
Why Spring Snow Is Different
Spring snow — wet, heavy, and loaded with pollen — is the most demanding condition for ski wax. Water and impurities adhere to ski bases, creating drag and making skis feel sticky and slow. Standard paraffin waxes designed for cold dry snow fail in these conditions. SpringSolution™ was invented specifically to solve this problem.
What Makes SpringSolution™ Unique

- 🧪 Updated 2026 formula — stronger pollen-repellent surfactant matrix for today’s heavier, earlier pollen seasons
- 📅 Invented in 1974 by Terry Hertel — the original, documented innovation in spring ski wax chemistry
- ⛷️ Ski an extra month — makes late-season spring skiing fast when other waxes give up
- 🏂 Works on skis and snowboards — any sintered or extruded base
- 📦 340g/12oz bar — multiple full applications
- 🇺🇸 Made in USA by Hertel Ski Wax since 1974
The Science Behind It
Ski wax researchers have documented Hertel’s 1974 innovation: "Researchers addressed the issue of water and impurities adhering to skis during spring conditions through the novel use of a surfactant that interacted with the wax matrix to repel water effectively — an innovation first introduced in 1974 by Hertel Wax." The 2026 formula update strengthens that surfactant matrix to address the heavier pollen loads and wetter snowpack driven by today’s warming climate.
How to Apply SpringSolution™
Apply by hot iron at medium temperature, keep the iron moving tip to tail. Scrape while still warm — do not let it cool before scraping. Buff to a high shine. For on-mountain touch-ups, rub directly onto the base and buff. Re-apply every 3–5 ski days.
Perfect For
- Spring skiing in wet, heavy, pollen-laden snow
- Late-season resort skiing when other waxes fail
- Corn snow and warm-weather alpine conditions
- Backcountry spring touring where conditions change rapidly
- Any skier or snowboarder who wants to extend their season
Frequently Asked Questions
Is SpringSolution™ really the only spring pollen wax?
Yes. In 50 years since its introduction in 1974, no other ski wax brand has engineered a product specifically for spring pollen snow. SpringSolution™ is the original and remains the only product of its kind.
What changed in the 2026 formula?
We updated the surfactant matrix with stronger pollen-repellent properties to address the heavier, earlier pollen seasons driven by a warming climate. The core chemistry that has made SpringSolution™ the industry standard since 1974 remains — now enhanced for today’s conditions.
When should I switch to SpringSolution™?
When snow becomes wet and heavy — typically when daytime temperatures consistently rise above freezing. If your skis feel sticky or slow in spring conditions, that’s the signal. With climate change pushing pollen seasons earlier, that signal may come sooner than it used to.
Does SpringSolution™ work on snowboards?
Yes. Works on all sintered and extruded ski and snowboard bases.
Is SpringSolution™ made in the USA?
Yes. Made in the USA by Hertel Ski Wax since 1974.

I tried this wax, during spring resort days and it was OK, but nothing special. Later, touring on gloppy dirty snow it was disappointing. Later I tried some Molybdenum mixed with yellow and it seemed to be much better, but honestly it might have just been the particular conditions that day.
Great wax at a great price!!
Spring in the Sierra is solved! What used to be stop and go icky slop is now smooth sailing. I live at the mountain and ski 50 days per year. I have been using Hertel for 20 years. Set the skis outside bases up, rub some Hertel on there, then rub it out with a scotch Brite pad. Repeat in a week or so. It lasts a long time.
All day easy sliding and goo repelling
When I ski in the springtime, I always use Spring Solution. Every year!
The absolute best for minimize stickiness during warmer days
