IceCoast ™— The Wax Built for East Coast Ice and Hard-Pack Conditions
IceCoast™ — professional-grade base hardening wax engineered for East Coast ice, hard-pack, and abrasive snow conditions. Made in USA by Hertel Ski Wax.
East Coast skiing has a reputation. Icy groomers. Man-made snow. Hard-pack that punishes bases and wears through standard wax in a single run. Early season terrain where thin snow cover exposes rocks and debris.
West Coast skiers talk about powder. East Coast skiers talk about survival.
IceCoast was built for East Coast skiers. But its benefits extend to any skier dealing with abrasive, demanding conditions anywhere in the world.
What IceCoast Does
IceCoast is not a standard glide wax. It is a professional-grade base hardening treatment — a formula that penetrates deep into the ski base material during the hot wax process, creating a tougher, more abrasion-resistant base structure.
Standard waxes sit on the surface of the base and wear off through friction with the snow. On icy, abrasive East Coast conditions, that wear happens fast — sometimes within a single run on a hard groomer.
IceCoast's hardening agents change the base itself, not just the surface. The result is a base that resists abrasion longer, maintains its structure through demanding conditions, and holds subsequent glide wax applications better.
The Application Method That Matters
IceCoast is applied during the normal hot wax process — ironed into the base just as you would any standard wax. But there is one critical step that most skiers miss:
Do not allow IceCoast to cool before scraping.
Mash scrape tip to tail while the wax is still hot, then buff to a high shine. This hot-scrape technique is what activates the hardening agents and delivers maximum base protection. Letting it cool first defeats the purpose.
The IceCoast + Racing 739 Combination
For maximum performance on icy race courses and hard-pack, Hertel recommends pairing IceCoast with Racing 739™ — the wax banned from Olympic competition for being too fast.
IceCoast hardens and protects the base structure. Racing 739 delivers the glide layer on top. Together, they create the most durable, highest-performing setup for extreme cold and icy conditions — the same combination used by professional race technicians who quietly incorporated Hertel products into their race-room routines.
Who Needs IceCoast
- East Coast skiers dealing with consistently icy or abrasive conditions
- Early season skiers on thin snow cover with exposed terrain
- Ski racers who need maximum base durability on hard race courses
- Anyone whose bases take a beating and wear through wax too quickly
- Skiers who have just had a fresh stone grind and want to protect the new base structure
A Note From Terry Hertel
East Coast skiers are some of the toughest, most technically skilled skiers in the world. They have to be — the conditions demand it.
IceCoast was built to match that toughness. A base that holds up to East Coast ice is a base that holds up to anything.
